The Rock Painting of Hueco Tanks
October 18, 2008 - September 01, 2009
The Deer Valley Rock Art Center is proud to offer its 2008 exhibition, "The Rock Paintings of Hueco Tanks" which opens October 18, 2008 and runs through September 1, 2009. "The Rock Paintings of Hueco Tanks" showcases the 1997 winner of the American Rock Art Research Association's Oliver Award for Excellence in Rock Art Photography, Clay Martin, who received the award for photo-essay on pictographs found at Hueco Tanks State Historic Site in Texas.
The three thousand pictographs at Hueco Tanks were mady by several different Native American groups and date as far back ast 6,000 B.C. In recent years many of the pictographs have been vandalized and Martin felt a sense of urgency to document the rock art while it is still intact. His breathtaking photographs, serving both as documentary record and artistic work, pay tribute to the original rock painters and allude to the ambiance of ancient settings.
