Musical Instrument Museum
The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) will celebrate the similarities and differences of the world’s cultures as expressed through music – a language common to us all. Assistant to Education Manager
Job OverviewMIM is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to assist the Education Manager with many aspects of running the museum’s education department. This position schedules, facilities and creates a variety of education programs for schools, children and families, coordinating with both docents and team members. The ideal candidate seeks to gain broad experience while using decision-making skills, flexibility, and attention to detail.
Job Duties
- Develop and deliver quality education programs for schools, youth, and families, including the school tour program, Artist in Residencies, classes, and workshops.
- Develop and manage contracts for teaching artists, lecturers, and speakers and provide them with logistical support.
- Research and designs curricular tour for K-12 student audience.
- Work with Education Manager to develop K-12 pre-visit and post-visit materials, school tour outlines, gallery activities, interpretive materials for a variety of audiences, and other education materials as needed.
- Participate in docent training as requested.
- Manage program budgets and conduct ongoing data tracking and evaluation of education programs.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, educators, schools, students, interns and volunteers.
- Provide staff assistance at major public programs, special exhibition openings, and festivals and special events.
- Other program and clerical assistance to Education Manager as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an area related to education or museum studies. Master’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years experience in museum education or public programming.
- Ability to teach and relate to diverse audiences and learning styles
- Knowledge and understanding of museum education theory and issues.
- Experience with youth programming and/or experience with K-12 classroom teaching a plus.
- Experience with Arizona schools and curriculum, and familiarity with Arizona state educational standards.
- Experience working with and coordinating volunteers.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, planning, organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, teaching and presentation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, to multi-task, and to be self-motivated.
- High level of problem solving skills and diplomacy.
- Bilingual skills, Spanish a plus.
- Local candidates preferred.
- Love of world music a plus!

Guest Service Associate

Overview:
MIM is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to interact with Guests upon entrance to the museum and theatre, as well as on the telephone, in a fast-paced environment. Guest Services Associates will function as the Box Office, Coat/Bag check and Information Desk for MIM ensuring a positive guest experience which reinforces the MIM brand for approximately 250,000 visitors a year. This is an exciting opportunity to help introduce guests to the world of musical instrument and create a responsive, guest oriented culture at MIM.
Responsibilities:
- Registering guests to the MIM by selling tickets, checking coats/bags, distributing the Guideport audio system and providing general information
- Handle large volumes of financial transactions, and settle cash drawers at the end of each shift or day
- Provide information regarding MIM’s donor benefits program, accept donations and honor benefits
- Answer telephones to sell theater tickets and museum admissions for individuals and/or groups
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the Guideport audio units and headphones, and charge them as needed
- Provide a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere for MIM guests
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
- Ability to cheerfully exercise patience and sound judgment in a variety of situations, especially in direct interactions with the public.
- Box office experience strongly preferred. Direct experience with The Patron Edge and The Patron Edge Online a plus.
- Strong computer skills in Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Love for world music and musical instruments a plus!

Requirements
- BA/BS in an academic discipline which supports development and fundraising.
- Five years of successful development and fundraising experience with proven abilities to develop and implement both strategic and tactical plans that achieve successful financial targets; including experience motivating, leading and managing a work team.
Desirable: Fundraising and Development experience in the arts. CFRE(Certified Fund Raising Executive) Graduate level degree.

General Internship Description
Description of Agency and Function: Historic Heritage Square located inside Heritage & Science Park, is comprised of several beautifully restored turn of the 20th century homes (including the 1895 Rosson House) and buildings located on what was part of the original Phoenix town site during the late 1800s. Today, the park itself is part of Phoenix’s downtown Copper Square.
The Rosson House - Heritage Square Foundation & Guild, a non-profit organization, provides docents/volunteers, educational programs, special events and historical activities for visitors of all ages at Historic Heritage Square in downtown Phoenix. Our mission: To preserve and interpret the Rosson House Museum through collections for the time period of 1895 through 1915 and to serve as stewards of Heritage Square.
Responsibly of intern and general description of Intern Role:
• Intern will assist in the following activities
• Organizing and maintaining business office and education office
• Handling incoming calls
• Assist in Research temporary exhibitions

• Assist in Implementing for temporary exhibitions and fundraising activities

Orientation and Training: Intern will Shadow 10 Docent lead tours in attend two offsite lectures of your choosing. (Two continuing education lectures should meet the mission of the Museum and your major).
Qualifications and Skills: This is a credited internship; we will work with your schedule. Minimum requirements: You must be in your sophomore year of an undergraduate program or higher and give a one semester commitment. No Experience Necessary.

• Prior museum experience, gallery attendant or experience in any non-profit

Children's Museum of Phoenix
Internships Available
Internships available at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix. The Children's Museum of Phoenix encourages individuals of all disciplines, interests and ages to apply for short-term internships.
The CMoP Internship Program provides emerging leaders with the opportunity to investigate and participate in the operations of a museum, particularly in the areas of development, marketing and education.
Internships are unpaid, although benefits include personal career mentoring and resume-building assistance from museum staff, as well a valuable research and project-management work. University credit may also be available.
Acting on the principle that learning is a joy, the Children’s Museum of Phoenix’s mission is to engage the minds, muscles and imaginations of children and the grown-ups who care about them. With hands-on, interactive exhibits designed for children ages birth to 10, the museum focuses on learning through play, with emphasis on early childhood development and school-readiness. The Bead Museum
Three Internships
Educational Programming InternDuties: The intern will develop traveling trunks to send into the schools meeting various curriculum in grades 2-6.
Qualifications: Prefer experience creating informal interactive lesson plans, interest in art or anthropology, and experience working with people of various ages.
Other Information: Intern would report to the Museum Educator. Hours are flexible but we prefer that students work at least one full day once a week for 15 weeks or the equivalent number of hours for fewer weeks. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis.
Exhibits Intern
Duties: The intern will develop skills in interpretation and presentation by assisting with the research, design, and installation of changing exhibits. The intern will learn about preventive conservation of artifacts while performing object rotations in permanent exhibits.
Qualifications: Strong interest in art and culture. Previous experience working with collections is preferred.
Other Information: Intern would report to the Collections Manager.
Collections Intern
Duties: Interns will gain valuable and practical experience in the registration process of objects and archival collections. This includes inventories, condition reports, photographing or scanning objects, labeling, indexing, cataloging, and housing. Preventive conservation techniques will be used to provide a safe environment for the collections. Data entry of collections records in PastPerfect software.
Qualifications: Previous experience working with collections is preferred. Must be computer savvy.
Other Information: Intern would report to the Collections Manager.
Commitment
Internships may last from eight weeks to one year depending on the students’ goals and the museum’s needs. Interns are expected to work at least 100 hours over the course of their internship regardless of the length of the internship. Hours are flexible but we prefer that students work at least one full day once a week for 15 weeks or the equivalent number of hours for fewer weeks. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis. Hours must be worked during business hours 9:30 am – 5:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. The museum is open to the public 10 am – 5 pm, Monday through Saturday, 10am – 8pm Thursday, and 11am – 4pm Sunday. Interns will be treated as staff and should commit to the internship as they would a paid position.

While The Bead Museum internships are unpaid, many students earn academic credit for their experience. In addition, the following benefits are extended to all interns:

The Halle Heart Center Museum
Tempe
The American Heart Association's Halle Heart Center Museum, located in Tempe, is a Museum about the cardiovascular system.
We are looking for long-term volunteers to give tours to school age children.
Volunteers must enjoy working with children and want to teach students about the cardiovascular system and heart healthy life skills.
Experience is not necessary, we will fully train, but training is intense and depending on experience can last up to a month. When training is completed, volunteers are able to choose their own hours. Tours are generally scheduled 10 am-noon, Monday-Friday.
Skills
- Must be out-going and have excellent communications skills
- Must have customer service skills; be able to interact with new people
- Must love teaching and enjoy working with children
- Some lifting is required, max of 25 lbs.

Must be proficient in ringing up sales on register and provide excellent customer service within 30 days of start date. We will train you on the cash register and other procedures.

The Rosson House at Historic Heritage Square is looking for volunteers. If you are interested in guiding tours, selling tickets, acting in our Readers Theater or Step Back in Time groups we have a place for you.
Perhaps you are artistic and would like to help merchandise the gift shop? Maybe you would like to learn other late 19th century hands-on activities for fun and to share with the visiting public at our events or in the Hands-On Heritage House? If yes, we would love to meet you.

Members portray various individuals from Phoenix’s 1890s era such as Mrs. Rosson, Dr. Rosson, their children and friends in a “first person” interpretation (just as if you were living in the late 19th century) for visitors touring the Rosson House. The Step Back in Time Players meet during the year to prepare for this special program which is conducted several times throughout the season.

Volunteer Education Aide

Education Aides Position Description:
- Serve as hosts at the Arizona Museum for Youth to provide a welcoming atmosphere to the public.
